Hollywood! long hair, tight pants and glam rock

fucking hell. this was seriously unexpected! =)
We were rompin Mulholland when we happened upon these glam rockers on a very picturesque turnoff in the Hollywood Hills. Quinn told us the photographer wanted all the bikes in the shot. we gleefully obliged. It turned out to be a super rad picture! turns out the punkekes were from Finland. they were super cool.

The lighting from the LA backround and the lighting from the mopeds makes this for such an awesome picture!! I guess Eric's pic was cut outta the picture. he was bustin wheeeeelies next to me and would've added to the radness of the picture. oh well. cool nonetheless

coool night. more to come

Jesus Second Coming! the apocalypse is coming to smite LA. and Jesus is coming on a moped!

Woolly Bully Summer ride September 20, 2009. Alot of miles tonight. After hitting up Mulholland and Sunset XD so awesome, everyone was hungry. i got caught up with J, Knucklehead Eric and Chris Bully @ UCLA which was a pretty interesting and lucky experience. the rest of the Bullies and Tigers and others met up at Skooby's and lo and behold, Jesus Christ. he was ready to bless us with his good will. Blasting down Sunset Blvd, I saw Jesus preaching down the street. Only in LA

Jesus in Blassst mode lol

In retrospect, it was definitely good omen because whilst me and J were being shaken down by the resident LAPD, we were consequently let go on grounds of not being able to find J's information, and warnings issued. Whew. another dodged bullet. Something was holy that night thats for sure.

exercise in futility

some complications. He's using a3 bottom end with a35 conrod and ignition with the alukit. We found out something interesting. The mounting for the a35 ignition is a bit different on the A3 bottom end and cant advance far enough on the a3 bottom end to make it run correctly.  The low end is still pretty good but if I pull full throttle, the bike has a strange 4 stroke feeling which was determined to be the timing. oh well. Matt has another a35 bottom end. thats gonna be a bit more promising.
MattD tuning some ignitions to no avail

Garage Space!

not enough space for tools and bikes. let alone a car and working space. ARRRRGGGG!

Flowers

it was nice out today. up with the early light just dazing around for a while.

Decided to be a little bit productive today. drilled out my main jet. The main jet with the new 4 petal polini seems like it was runnin a jet or two lean. Bought this jet drill set from Knucklehead Bryan for  5 bucks. good investment. Never have to buy a jet again. i would highly recommend

Have performance reeds comin in soon from treats. More to come soon

cancerous!

I got this frame from Matt D for $free.99! I was looking for a different kinda build and he hooked it up with a Motobecane.  When he said it had rust, that was seriously a huge understatement. Unbelievable case of the crazy crusty rustys. The rust has eaten up the whole stress point. the thing would be scary to ride, regardless if i patched it up.  I think Im just gonna hang it up in the garage somewhere as a wall piece.

oh well for that. Puch Maxi is next in the lineup for fixins

Sad Sack Sachs

This 78 Sachs balboa is in sad shape! I bought this moped like over 2 years ago. I rode it around everywhere for about a thousand miles until I bought the Sprint.  This moped sported the 505/C, which was pretty torquey and very reliable. Solid 35mph.  Since then, I cant seem to find the time or monies to get this thing going again. I originally bought this Sachs unknowingly with a sheered key way on the crank. Me and my pops made a janky ass one that held up for months! until the timing kept on slipping again. I think this would cause that.

Seems like the previous owner tried to get to the stator somehow, stripped the threading on the flywheel nut and managed to mangle the woodruff keyway also. Myrons Mopeds had a crank for the 505 at the time but wanted waaay too much money for it than i had at the time.  I said fuck it and couple months ago I took the engine cases apart to study and to attempt to change all of the seals, which i did have (cam on to HandyBikes)   The seals looked immaculate, so did the gears and internals.  Wow really looked brand new. I suspected as much because the odometer read only 400 miles when i first bought the bike. The speedo and odometer was almost always surprisingly accurate too. VDO i think.

But since then, the Balboa has been stripped of headlight, handlebars, some controls and some crank and pedals.

AND and I haven't even finished putting the case halves together yet. Easy stuff right?!?  I just don't really wanna put the cases back together with the crank looking the way it does.  I guess Ill have to source one somewhere... sometime. or try to use my air Impact to really torque that flywheel onto the taper. That might hold.  or maybe wishful thinking. man i hope this works.

Woolly Bullies Vol. 666

The Hollywood Forever Cemetery was awesome. Sitting in the cemtery drinking and smoking. Sacralegious to some? or the best kind of tribute? The Summer nights are still quite warm. Special screening of Ferris Buellers Day Off was extraordinary! Forgot about how ahead of its time the film was.  Didnt get too many pictures this time because the camera memory was full. Damn this ride has alot of great camera opportunities. Aw well. next time.

Tacos! Fill up food for the starved.

DoubleTreated!!

Double Treated! The best part was the random Bonnie Raitt Tape that they included in the box! awesome. I HEART Treats!! im soo gonna keep this forever

Treats are here! Shipping is light speed with those guys. sweet little Malossi 4 petal and some plug wire and some gaskets.  I still wann run the Polini set up, but this no petcock issue is seriously making me think twice. Ah well. I guess i gotta make a manifold proper.

Locked Out!

Complication Minor

Moped under construction

Just picked up a sweet Polini 4-petal and 19mm manifold from Woolly Bully Christopher. It was off from a LateBirdy race bike that was sold to Chris and then consequently blown and parted out and sold to me.  I initially thought the manifold was made by Shaw but turns out that it was a Choke especial. It sealed well anyways.  All of the electrical wiring on this Tomos ST was on the left side..  the wiring is kinda messy and looking to clean it up as soon as possible. Some off the holes were threaded in the frame from the factory, which made it a little bit easier to wire up.

The 19mm intake manifold is pretty sweet. The intake fits perfectly under the Tomos frame, which seems to be the problem with putting on a 4 petal onto a Tomos.  Another problem I ran into was that on a A55 frame, the petcock is on the left side and gets in the way with the reed cage on the Polini. If i was running the Malossi 4-petal, this wouldnt be a problem i think. But if I was runnin the Malossi, I would've had made a different manifold which would have been more time consuming and costly.
Also, the stock carb position is on the right side, which makes putting on a PHBG kind of difficult to adjust, as the controls on the PHBG is on the left. With the new manifold, it shoots the carb on the opposite side of stock Tomos but on the correct side of the controls. Its a good compromise.
For now this seems to be the solution. Running a straight fuel line to the filter then the carb. Im planning on getting an inline fuel valve soon. having no petcock kinda sucks
As soon as I was done, i took the little black Tomos for a ride.  I gained more lowend from my  previous setup and top screams like a banshee. Feels good all around but i think im jetted a little lean on top i think. I had this weird low end bogging from being too rich and having a crappy manifold with the 2 petal. But alll of that is gone now. The ST idles perfectly, revs smoothly and has no airleaks! sweeeeeet. I suspected the crappy 2 petal manifold, although a healthy 21mm, to be air leaky and unreliable.  I guess I was right because as soon as I put that shitty manifold on, I lost alot of low end. Especially compared to Knucklehead Zachs bike, which was almost the same exact set-up except a bitchen 2 petal 19mm manifold made by Shaw. Zachs bike had so much torque that it would pull wheelies in first and second gear.
So now that I have my torque back with a good intake, its blast mode. tootaloooooo

Some Moped Artwork. I dont remember who did it. but rad regardless

Bonneville Flats Record Holder. Myrons Mopeds

Treats on the way!! YAY! getting another 4 petal and other little things.

Airsal KittyCat. widened exhaust 3mm. intake widened 4mm. transfers matched to an A55. lost some lowend. Im a light guy so any loss is negligible.  but when I hit the pipe, it just blasts, all the way to top speed. 55mph+

4 petal Airsal Reed Valve A55

more pics to come!! Ive run in to a couple issues. Mainly petcock isssues, and electrical mounting issues.

Sunday Summers

Fractured clavicle! its kept me outta the moped thing for what seems to be forever! I just missed everything. I missed my moped. i missed my friends! But now im a bit more healed. Let the good times roll. Everything for the past 2 years now have been basically related to these loud smelly smokey silly little machine thingys.

I guess a couple updates first. This was last Sunday. On the way to LA to ride with Woooollly Bulllies! and Tigers! 2pm Met up at Knucklehead Erics house in a pretty rough area of Norwalk. Tightened some bolts, turned some screws, squirted some gas, gapped some plugs, adjusted  knick knacks, the usual, ya know?  In the process of all of this, found out that my bearing spacers in the rear wheel were shot. This is like the THIRD time this has happened. 1st time, bought the wheel from Myrons with no spacer. wrecked my bearings. 2nd time, the spacer that was put in was of inadequate length, wrecked my bearings. This time, the shims that Marvin had welded to the spacer had ground down considerably, causing this wierd squeaking noise ive long suspected to be the bearings. So Ive wrecked another pair of bearings. Hmmmm makes me think how well the front wheel is shimmed.

Well, Knucklehead Eric being the super genius that he is, bored out an old washer to shim the bearing properly, and it fucking worked like a charm. for the time being any way. I guess we're just gonna go to Ace Hardware and get some nice hardened steel tubing and cut the correct spacer length because it seems like nobody can get the damn wheel right. Mopeds always broken but they're easy to fix!! Off to meet Rad Robert, who also conveniently lives in Norwalk. Met up with Robertooooo then it was a fucking blast all the way down Beverly St to Woolly Bully BBQ tunnels and bridges ride. soo rad

looky all the mopeds! Woolly Bully meet.Such a good showing. Soo many people have gotten all kinds of fast since last

The many many faces I havent seen is soo long! BBQ time. Jerked chicken, rice and beans, pico watermelon......mmmmmmm yummy

Fellow KnuckleHead Eric!!!! my good buddy, expert mechanic, new daddy! Yay for Eric! baby boy Wesley.  He is really knowledgable about small motorini, and is the king of backyard ingenuity. Plus he will build the cleanest bikes around. Eric has the touch of knack. Somehow he inherited a Black Widow  Pinto Swinger with a 80 metra e50 super motor built by Shaw.  He's recently turned and tuned that creation into one of the cleanest Pintos ive seen. When we go ride he just plays with me, sandbaggin his throttle for sure. 80 Metra is seriously boss. 60mph+

damn. soo clean

This is Knucklehead Erics next monster creation. 84 Cobra. oh man. soo jealous of this one. Its gonna get the whole Tomos treatment. A35 bottom, alukitty, reeds and manifold. Gonna be a good reliable blassster. Much thanks to Woolly Bully Maxwell! he is soo rad.

Night ride. Petrol fill. The good dudes. true passion. Mike Matt and Robert.

Kiyoko burned a headlamp. quickie bulb change to no avail. i think its a grounding problem. Taped on Flashlight = good enough to not get a ticket! sweet

Off to Stinkers. Tigre Lauren Djs the bar.

Robert broke his rear axle on the way to Stinkers. We chilled a little bit at the bar, deciding what we should do. The only logical choice was to ride to doubles on my Tomos all the way back to Norwalk. that was a rad experience.  The whole way we were blasting at least 50mph+ according to Eric. Doubles at 50+. soo cool. Me and Robert combined probably weigh 250 pounds. maybe thats why. Made it home safely. definitely was beat. This was the first long ride since the LateBirdies Flock yeah II, in account of my collarbone and all that jazz.  I heart Woolly Bullies and LA Tigers.

Look out. Some serious builds comin in the future from the Knuckleheads and the Bullies.

First post! a couple years late on the bloggy thing, but many great things to come
